EVA B // MONTRÉAL 2015 • p1
Eva B is located at St. Laurent Blvd. Montréal, QC and is truly the most AMAZING, repeat AMAZING vintage thirftshop that exists on this planet I swear. Two floor thriftshop heaven of which second floor is stuffed with any costumes you might desire, they’ve got a bistro bar, which serves vegan and vegetarian food(illest samosas), they’ve got a stage, and space for events, a library and must I not forget the glorious Princess Maggie, which is by far the most overweight dog I’ve ever seen, but oh so cute. Everyone and everything is in french so you’re strolling around in this old world of stuff, stories and smells and your name is Amelié.
I have a love/hate relationship with thriftshops as most places are either so overwhelming and stuffed with items that I simply can’t get myself to even try to look for anything. And that’s another thing, I only buy stuff when they captivate my glance and I’m so fascinated/in love/can’t continue life sans the product that I simply can’t leave the building without it. I find that if I force myself to buy something, not having this sensation while finding it, I often end up not using it that much, or at all, because I pretty much just bought it to buy something. Neehh. Eva B is a different kind of thriftshop, yes it is packed, but because of all its secret little nooks and crannies, walking there was like walking through the home of some a wizard from Disney, or checking out the crib of someone who live in a furnished cave. Things were placed in such odd circumstances, and all over the location which already had so many turns, steps and tunnels, you couldn’t stop scanning around. Everything demands your attention.
We ended up spending hours there, and left with one white sick Tommy Hilfiger overall, and a odd/awesome pattern shirt for Milton, while I got me a pair of white baggy high wasted jeans with silk diamond shapes on the side, coloured in various warm pastel colours. Each item was less than $15 USD. Oh and as you enter you are offered a little bag of free popcorn, flavoured in jalapeño, garlic, or what ever flavour they serve that day, which change each day, as well as a little glass of hot homemade apple cider, to enjoy as you’re dazing out at this magical space. The employees are the sweetest and would not hesitate getting their boogie on with you, as this place play pretty much anything you’d actually want to hear. I live in Brooklyn which is covered in amazing thrift shops, but nothing can even compare to this place. Only thing that made me sad was that Arcade Fire didn’t show up via some secret door in the library. Do not go to Montréal and not visit this spot.
